OVERVIEW
Home to The Turning Stone Resort Championship on the PGA TOUR, the Oneida Indian Nation’s resort has evolved into a premier golf destination presenting 72 holes of golf, an indoor training center and an array of instructional programs.
Three preeminent golf course architects -- Tom Fazio, Robert Trent Jones Jr. and Rick Smith -- have each crafted masterpieces at Turning Stone. In addition, the campus houses its own golf academy as well as the highly-acclaimed Dave Pelz Scoring Game School.
The Atunyote Golf Club, designed by Fazio, is the host site of The Turning Stone Resort Championship, the only regularly-scheduled PGA TOUR event on American Indian lands. The 2007 inaugural edition, the first in the PGA TOUR’s Fall Series, attracted an impressive field of professionals from throughout the world vying for a $6 million purse. Steve Flesch won the event, marking his second victory of the season and the fourth of his career.
The Oneida Indian Nation is proud of its six-year partnership with the PGA TOUR. Plans are already underway for the second Turning Stone Resort Championship, scheduled for Sept. 29 - Oct. 5, 2008 at Atunyote.
Turning Stone offers two additional 18-hole courses and two nine-hole layouts.
The Kaluhyat Golf Club, created by Jones, is a classic shot-maker’s course marked by tight fairways and well-protected greens.
The Shenendoah Golf Club, the Smith compilation, is the dean of the resort’s championship offerings. The site is abounding with preserved wetlands and ornamental native grasses.
Smith employed the same meticulous attention to detail in designing Sandstone Hollow, Turning Stone’s par three course. It’s the ideal venue for novices or accomplished players looking to fine-tune their short game.
Kaluhyat, Shenendoah and Sandstone Hollow have all been designated as Certified Signature Sanctuaries by Audubon International.
Pleasant Knolls, a regulation-length nine-hole course, is a player-friendly layout with open fairways and gently rolling terrain.
In order to provide a complete golf experience, Turning Stone has developed a wide curriculum of instructional programs and state-of-the-art facilities.
Turning Stone’s indoor training facility houses 40 hitting stations, two putting surfaces, a bunker and two golf simulators. It’s also equipped with the computer-enhanced V1 Coaching System.
The Pelz School applies his practical, scientific approach to golf, honed through decades of research and one-on-one coaching of many of the game’s top professionals. Three day programs and one-day clinics are held throughout the summer.
Year-around instruction is available through the Golf Academy at Turning Stone, staffed by PGA teaching professionals offering individualized or group lessons. |
